Before going to El Paso, Texas my family and I decided we would try to learn a few words of Spanish before we went to a cousins quincinera. A quincinera is for a young girl coming of age.
Anyway, since we were driving it gave us about a day to practice a few words to get us by”,. I bought a spanish conversation cd/dvd to play in the car. Everyone was excited to begin. It was conversational so we will all be a little versed in Spanish… or so we thought.
As we drove, I found myself as well as the others repeating each word or phrase. “Como Estas, Como Estas?” At about 6 or 7 hours I noticed it was quiet – I turned around and what I saw was unbelievable. Everyone in the back seat was sound asleep.
Ok, it was funny… I laughed. When we arrived someone says “Oye como va”; which is from a Santana song. We about died laughing.
Oh well, we had fun and for those who could understand us, laughed and those who saw the picture roared. We had a great time visiting cousins and family we never knew about.
What we expected was to learn a few words; what happened was…

I really am learning Spanish
