The wanderer

At a young age, she thought about life…not just in this house…but somewhere else…another house ? No…another state…maybe a few states or maybe all the states…maybe just wander around & check “stuff ” out! She began working at a young age, thankful that mom taught her a few things in the kitchen, she was tall enough to look 15 but at 12 she got her 1st job as a pantry girl at a dog race track, alongside her older brother of 13; he got to be the cook! They only worked the summer, but each year, they returned & they ran the kitchen for 3 1/2yrs before the owners found out they were underage and had to get a work permit… not bad.

The siblings got their work permit and soon after they decided to go to work for a hotel restaurant, working after school, weekends, summers until they graduated from high school. Both siblings joined the Navy but one had to wait until she was older and she had to watch as her brother took off to wander while she continued to work and wait for her turn…

Years pass, both siblings wandered in the Navy, but after they got out they checked out different places, met people, worked, loved and lived, got married, had families, finally settling in what they thought where they wanted to be. But things change, marriages fall apart. places get overcrowded & sometimes its time to wander again! She thinks about how long she’s been in one place, her kids are grown up, they have their busy lives and she wants warmer weather, maybe a lake, river, pool… so she remembers times in her past living and playing somewhere that gave her joy. She moves back to a place that is smaller, has a lake & bonus…river, pool. She can watch the sun rise & set sitting outside. The nights open up with sunsets of every color & then… stars that take your breath away.

She is content. She is married to the love of her life & they still wander but they are happy to return “home”. As for her sibling? He too found his “home” in another place where he lives with the love of his life. He wanders but especially likes to wander on his 7 acres of forest with his family!

Yes… “Not all those who wander are lost!
